Darshana Society is formed to understand and learn various aspects of Hindu religion, Hindu philosophy and Hindu way of life and other world religions.  Darshana in Sanskrit language means --View or viewpoint, philosophy, seeing or feeling.

In these group meetings members can share their knowledge and express their own philosophy or viewpoint about subjects related to Hindu religion, Indian philosophy and other world religions.

The group meets on every Thursday of the month at 7:00pm.- 8:00pm. in the Hindu Temple of Eastern Iowa.  Currently the group is reading " Complete works of Swami Vivekananda" and "Principal Upanishads."

The Hindu temple of Eastern Iowa proudly presents "Vidyalaya", a program which caters to educating our youth about Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma. Dharma means righteousness and good moral and ethical practices in accordance with the scriptures. Dharma includes all duties, individual, social, and religious, and adherence to the laws of the land. According to the Hindu philosophy, Dharma is essential for accomplishing material and spiritual goals and for the growth of the individual and society. Vidyalaya will attempt to teach children in our community Hindu Dharma.

CLASSES ARE HELD ON THE 2nd AND 4th Sunday of EVERY MONTH FROM 10AM to 11AM AT THE HINDU TEMPLE.

Some of the things included in our curriculum are:

• Yoga

• Bhajan/shloka chanting

• Story reading from our Hindu mythology

• Children are trained to perform dances and enact in skits publicly during festival months

• Our classes are very interactive. We encourage debate/discussions on various subjects regarding Hinduism.
